Results – National Titles 2016

The results for the 50th Australian Titles are in!! It was exciting racing at Yarrawonga Yacht Club, with a very brisk Day 1, followed by light shifty winds that tested the skills and patience of all sailors. The positions were hotly contested and positions were up for grabs right down to the very last race. What a series! Congratulations to everyone involved and a big thanks to Yarrawonga for hosting this event.

Nationals 2013 – 2014 NOR and Accommodation

Calling all sailors,

It’s the middle of winter and you aren’t thinking sailing but it’s time to commit to coming to Gosford in January for the 49th National E’s Annual Australian Championships.

Gosford Sailing Club is really looking forward to making this a great regatta and are even providing a free sausage sizzle after every race. If you haven’t already done so click on this link http://www.gossail.com.au/‎ and see what they have to offer.

Please find the NOR here.

As promised in the last newsletter I have put together the following information about accommodation.

By clicking on any of the links below you’ll be taken to a google map that shows a list of names, contact and booking details and location of that style of accommodation.

1. Motels, B & Bs

2. Self catering apartments and houses

Wombats B&B “(found in Category 1. Motels, B&Bs) also has self catered accommodation and can take small and large groups and is worth a look as it is very close to the sailing club and sailing area. Other accommodation of this style is a bit further away on the coast. If that would suit you better than you need to get in early as Terrigal and Avoca are more holiday areas.

3. Hotels

It may say sound strange to include hotel listings but the Hotel Gosford is very conveniently located, has a really good looking bistro dining area, great art deco ambience and very good rates. In the words of one our sailors – some of us stayed there earlier this year when GSC hosted the NSW State Titles – “I’ll be looking for a hotel for the week. I know that Hotel Gosford does specials for week long stays. I also like the hotel, I think the 1920s retro is kinda cool. I’d be quite keen to stay there. And who could argue with a base rate of $50 a night !”

As some sort of guide to pricing here are some 7 day stay prices

Galaxy Motel

Wombats B&B

$1546 – Family Room Upto 2-4 people

Nationals 2013 – 2014

Hi all National E Sailors,

Firstly thank you to everybody who participated in the recent survey and replied by email or filled out the on-line survey. This certainly made it easier to decide on when and where to hold the National series for this coming summer.

As a result of your replies the executive has decided to hold the Nationals in NSW at Gosford, on the Brisbane Water. Our host club will be the Gosford Sailing Club. They are very keen to show us their excellent sailing and club facilities and it will be an great location to showcase the National E Class as there are lots of keen sailors in the area. Please click on this link to learn more about the sailing club: http://www.gossail.com.au

We are in the process of finding out about accommodation with our accommodation and travel specialist, Miss Emily Jones, sorting out the best deals. In the meantime the GSC Commodore has advised us that there are motels in the West Gosford area near the club often used by visiting sailors. If we can give him a good idea of numbers he would try to get a deal for us. People looking for houses would need to try the Terrigal or Avoca areas which are around 15 minutes drive away. Camping is limited to the coastal areas and is both scarce and some distance away. Gosford City Council is unsupportive of people wanting to stay in tents on the reserve near the sailing club. Emily has got some early prices on B&B’s, motels, hotels and serviced apartments.

Please reply to me as soon as you can with an idea of the type of accommodation you might like so that we have an indication of numbers we’ll look at the various options and get the information out to you.

Cheers,

Jim Allen, President

Getting ready for the 2012 Nationals

Hi all National E Sailors,

As pre-empted at the last Regatta in Balmoral this year’s National Championship will be at Lake Cootharaba, near Noosa in Queensland. The dates that are just about locked in are start Saturday 29th December, finish Thursday 3rd of January. This gives plenty of time to get up there and back after the family Christmas and before returning to work.

Four of us this year made it up to the Jack Holt Regatta in early May and as I was one of them I can attest to what a wonderful place it is to go sailing. Check out the National E website and take the link to the Jack Holt Regatta and then to the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club to get a feeling for the Nationals.

Camping accommodation right on the Lake, next door to the sailing club or houses for rent along the lake shore. Or if you’d prefer 20 minutes down the road to Noosa and everything that’s available in that holiday resort.

What I would like at the moment, if at all possible is an indication from you that you may be going or that you are thinking of going. It would be great at this stage to get a handle on numbers as it would make it easier to negotiate with the sailing club and we can pre-book some camping sites in the name of the E’s. So please reply and help to make this a truly great National’s experience.

Cheers

Jim Allen

National President

Jack Holt Regatta 2012

Hi all sailors,

Last year we discovered the Jack Holt Regatta held annually at Lake Cootharaba in Queensland. Two Melbourne E sailors traveled north and reported that it was fantastic.

Those of you who can get away on the first weekend in May should make this trip. Rumour has it that a couple of Melbourne boats are returning and maybe a Sydney contingent will be there too.

Not only does it promise to be a great weekend’s sailing but it is very likely the National Titles will be held there this year. So this is a chance to suss out the waters and the accommodation.

Check out the details and Notice of Race here.

2011 Nationals at Balmoral

Thank you to everyone who played a part in making the recent nationals such a success.

The NSW  E  sailors did a great job in putting it all together.
Thanks especially to Peter Nixey (organisation and courses), Geoff Gill (statistician) Sue Halloran (registration, canteen and presentation dinner), Emily Jones (accommodation and prizes), William Nixey (welcome packs and prize-giving MC), Sarah Mackay (Information and welcome packs), Wilf (& Sabina)  Prest and Chris Connolly (welcome BBQ). Thanks also to everyone else who helped even just by picking up a broom and sweeping the club house.

Thank you to Nicola McCorry  for her photographic efforts!National E's at Balmoral

To the Commodore of Balmoral Sailing Club, David Johnson and the PRO, Heather Hall, and her team of stalwarts a very special thank you.

Thanks also to the competitors, especially those who travelled from interstate to compete. The races were keenly but fairly contested and it was great to catch up with sailing friends and families at the end of each day’s sailing.

Congratulations to all the winners and place getters but especially to the new national champions – David Taylor (helm) and Gavin Peace
(crew) who sailed Santoy (E492).

President
